Vincent van Gogh’s L’Allée des Alyscamps will be the highlight of Sotheby’s Evening Sale of Impressionist & Modern Art in New York on 5 May 2015. Vincent Van Gogh completed this work in 1888 during his fabled Arles-period, when he created many of his most celebrated compositions
Henri Rousseau (Laval, 1844 – Paris, 1910) is the subject of the new art exhibition at the Doge’s Palace in Venice. Henri Rousseau – Archaic Naivety exhibition features over hundred works from major international institutions, including some forty masterpieces by the artist and sixty works for comparison.
In May, the joint exhibition MUNCH | VAN GOGH opens in Oslo, where it will be for three months before moving to Amsterdam. The unique collaboration between the Munch Museum and the Van Gogh Museum brings over one hundred art works together, with iconic masterpieces including Munch’s The Scream and Madonna; Van Gogh’s Starry Night over Rhone.
Items worth approximately £150,000, most produced in the 1920s, include a large selection of vases, as well as car mascots, statuettes, dishes and bowls, ceiling lights, and perfume bottles. A notable feature of the collection is the proliferation of coloured glass. While much of Lalique is clear or opalescent, the shades of green, blue, and amber of many pieces offered here are harder to find.
Acclaimed actress of stage and screen, Lauren Bacall, who passed away in August 2014, had formed an astonishing art collection which included works by some of the greatest artists of the 20th century. The 700-piece Lauren Bacall Collection includes works by Henry Moore, Hockney, Picasso, Miro, Calder, as well as tribal art and jewelry.
Sotheby’s will offer Vincent van Gogh’s Still Life, Vase with Daisies and Poppies in its Evening Sale of Impressionist & Modern Art in New York on 4 November 2014. Painted at the home of Dr. Paul Gachet just weeks before the end of Van Gogh’s life, the artist uses the richly-colored bouquet of wildflowers to convey his psychological state at the time – a hallmark of the Expressionist icon.
